If somebody wants to quit smoking then the most important thing that person should think of or know is that the person can really Quit Smoking. One should be confident that one can really quit smoking. One should have good will power as this is not an easy task but then is not impossible to. Quitting Smoking can be divided in two phases which the person has to go through.
PHASE I: Quitting with help
Studies have revealed that out of the number of people who decides to quit smoking with only self restraint, only 5% of them are successful and rest 95% of them fails. One should understand that taking help of someone is not a bad thing. In fact many successful people so because they have taken help of many other people. One should also know that many smoking quitters have failed to do so many times. But they kept on trying and so are successful. One can form a small group of people who are trying to quit smoking and motivate each other to do so. One can get a lot of hope and strength from small talk or meetings.
PHASE II: Staying smoke free and not relapsing
This is the most difficult and vulnerable part of the treatment as when a person is able to quit smoking for a while then the urge to smoke keeps on attacking that person suddenly and on unexpected movements. The best way to deal with this situation is to take a deep breath and try to hold it for 5 – 10 seconds and the person can feel this surge suppressed to a great extend. A person will face this type of situation and the best way out is to try repeating the above every time this happens. Eventually this urge will suppress completely.
